In a rapidly changing and highly competitive economy the ability to execute corporate values and vision swiftly is essential. A key enabler of this ability is a well-educated and highly skilled workforce, because business globalisation increasingly demands worldwide access to expert knowledge. With heightened competition driving shorter product life cycles and time to market, the rapid delivery of knowledge is crucial. At the same time, increased mobility and decentralisation means learning opportunities must be available anytime and anywhere. To meet this need, organisations must provide their employees with easy access to on demand and job-relevant learning.
A key talent management strategy is to optimize the core processes involved in managing a workforce, that is attracting and acquiring talent, educating and developing talent, identifying and growing future leaders and aligning and motivating talent with corporate objectives. In particular, by managing enterprise learning with the SAP Enterprise Learning environment, organisations can structure, deliver and track knowledge transfer. Organisation can also tailor content to individual learning styles and needs, plan, measure, and analyse the impact of learning programs.
The SAP Learning Solution (LSO) extends SAP Training and Events Management (TEM) to include web-based training (WBT) content, curricula and personal control over all training activities.
SAP Learning Solution (LSO) is based on four pillars:
- Learning Portal
- Learning Management System
- Authoring Environment
- Content Management System
The Learning Portal seamlessly integrates into the SAP Enterprise Portal. Learners access the Learning Portal through Microsoft Internet Explorer. The Learning Portal provides a complete overview of available course offerings, tailored to the learners' roles within the organisation and personalised for their use.
The relevant courses proposed for each learner can range from Web-based training (WBT) and virtual classroom sessions to traditional classroom training.
Training Administration is performed via the Learning Management System (SAP Backend) or can be performed utilising purpose built, administrator front-end dashboard interfaces. Training Administrators can also make use of the Curriculum Type or Course Program, which can be used to group different functionally related to course types, for example WBT and Classroom for ease of assignment.
SAP LSO also offers purpose built front-end interfaces for managers to manage the learning activities and growth of their employees as well as for instructors to manage courses assigned to them.
Authors create courseware in the SAP Authoring Environment by structuring modularised, reusable, learning objects. SCORM compliant content from 3rd party vendors can also be imported into the SAP Authoring Environment.
The Content Management System, a component of the Knowledge Management Platform of the SAP Enterprise Portal (EP), is used in the SAP Learning Solution for storage and version management of course content.
